Bahawalpur – The City

The State of Bahawalpur was one of the notable Muslim states in undivided India with the Muslim ruler and a predominantly Muslim population. At the time of partition of India and Pakistan in 1947, Bahawalpur’s last ruler Nawab Sir Sadiq Muhammad Khan Abbasi V, chose to cede to Pakistan.

Though Bahawalpur is not an ancient city, it possesses an array of glorious traditions. It was established as the capital of Bahawalpur State in 1748 by Nawab Bahawal Khan-I. It enjoyed this status till 1955 when the state was abolished to form One Unit by the Government of Pakistan.

Bahawalpur has always been considered as a city of knowledge and educational institutions. Students from all over the country prefer to come to Bahawalpur to seek education from school to university level.
